What will happen if you use your age as a barrier to doing what you really want to do?

Nothing. There you go; that’s it. If you think you are too old to do something, you won’t do it, and nothing will happen.

Actually, that’s not true; something will happen. You will most likely end up feeling resentful.

If you believe the newspapers and online chatterboxes, everyone must strive to look and behave as young as possible. Youth is the eternal holy grail.

To my horror, this is making even 30-year-olds question if they are too old to follow their dreams. I saw a 30-year-old on Twitter ask if she was too old to achieve much more in her life. Seriously? This made me shudder. What kind of society are we living in that a 30-year-old is questioning her age and if it will affect her abilities?

Another, right here at Medium, questioned if she was too old to start again at 40. Yeah, right, love, you are way over the hill at 40.

Or was it good old click bait again? Did these young women know their questions would set off a torrent of responses from aghast people who were older than 30 or 40? I’d like to remain cynical on this one and believe they both knew what they were doing and didn’t really think they were too old to pursue their dreams. But who knows? While we favour youth so much, it is…
