The Night Twitter Changed my Life
I’d been out drinking. One too many had left me, let’s just say, a little tipsy. OK, I was drunk, but not so drunk that I couldn’t focus on my Twitter DM box.
A message from someone I vaguely knew How intriguing. I clicked. I don’t have the message yet, but I wish I did, just for posterity. It went something along the lines of: We are getting together a group of ladies to run the Race for Life to raise money for cancer research. Are you up for a 5km?’
I hadn’t run since I was at school, apart from for a bus. I laughed. Yes, I’m up for that.
I woke up the next morning and groaned inwardly. What had I done? But a part of me felt excited. Not only would I be running again (I loved it at school), I’d be meeting a new group of people.
My best friend lived in Devon by now. I had friendly neighbours, and I got along well with my work colleagues, but the truth was, I didn’t have many real friends who were close by.
It did feel strange going to meet a group of women I’d never met before, but we all hit it off really well. It wasn’t long before we had a logo, a Facebook page, and were on fire in the local press.
The women were a real mixture; some were business owners or self-employed (like me); it was a mix of high-flying professionals and all sorts of occupations…
