Sometimes People Mock Our City, But This Only Makes Me Smile.

Little do they know.

“Can you believe they laughed?”

An indignant friend was watching a popular TV programme where the presenters mocked our fine city by laughing at someone who said they were coming here to film.

The same friend is moving back to Norwich after a few years down south.

Tellingly, a high proportion of people who once lived here in Norfolk move back after a period somewhere else. This includes me.

When I first moved to Norwich, over 30 years ago, many people scratched their heads. “It’s so far away.” “It will isolate you from the rest of the country.” “It’s backwards.” “People talk funny there.” “Isn’t that where siblings marry one another?”

Over the years, I’ve heard it all. But I just smile.

Why?

I am going to assume you haven’t been here, show you photographs, and give you some facts about this city I love.
