Quick Tips For New Photographers — Does the Weather Really Matter?
I don’t care what the weatherman said…
I have a photographer friend who hates winter. He actually counts down from when the clocks fall back to when they spring forward again.
Despite being a talented landscape photographer, he is not keen on capturing winterscapes.
I, on the other hand, love winter. Not the shortness of the days, nor the sharpness of the wind, nor the wetness that comes with it, but I do love the cool sunsets, the later sunrises, the amazing wintry skies, and how the light falls more dramatically than in summer. All the tones are different.
One December, I stood on a north Norfolk beach with a numb face and blue fingers, totally oblivious that hyperthermia was about to set in because the beach beneath the winter sky was, quite simply, breathtaking.
Spring and summer, of course, have their immense benefits. Big blue skies, golden sands, blossoms, lush green grasses, and wildlife going crazy.
But winter, in my opinion, is a strong competitor. All seasons bring something new and special.
