Quick Tips for New Photographers — It’s not all about the camera.

Do not assume you need expensive equipment.

Oh to have millions of pounds, euros, or dollars and indulge in camera equipment. Wouldn’t that be a dream come true?

The truth is, photography is tremendously fulfilling and satisfying, pretty much whatever the equipment you have.

That said, I truly covet the Leica S12, and I know I could take photos as good as Annie Leibovitz or Nadav Kander if I had one.

Not true.

Their talent comes from within, not necessarily from the lens. But, of course, equipment does help if you are taking professional shots for Vogue or Time Magazine.

If you can afford expensive equipment, great! But if you are brand new to photography and have oodles to spend, don’t get charmed by slick salespeople into parting with your cash too quickly.

Find your way with cheaper or even borrowed models because, until you learn the basics and get some practice in, you won’t truly know what you need.

Take a photography course or browse YouTube to find photographers with top tips on the specific style of photography you are interested in.

If you are not sure what genre of photography you want to pursue, don’t worry. Check them all out before you buy any equipment.

Take your time to do the research before you part with your cash.
