Is it Wrong to Start a New Book When You Haven’t Finished the One You Are Working On?

This is the constant dialogue in my head. It’s not just about writing but also about numerous other topics.

The antagonistic, mischievous elf in my head says, “Go ahead; you know you want to start that new book of short stories now. Don’t let the flame burn out.”

The sensible fairy, wearing an angelic white dress, says, “No, no, no, you haven’t finished those illustrations yet for the book you’ve spent several months writing.”

The antagonistic, mischievous elf suggests, “How about creating more designs of those grumpy crabs for t-shirts? Also, the chair designs would be a great addition, and they would also look fantastic on handbags.”

The sensible fairy screams, “STOP! You need to be marketing the designs you already have before creating any more.”

The antagonistic, naughty elf whispers, “I have an idea for a brilliant blog post about your visit to that market last week. And, you could write about that time you ate wasabi thinking it was avocado.”

The sensible fairy: “Enough!”

Sometimes I wonder about my brain. It seems to do whatever it wants, constantly
