I Wrote My Own Press Release — Here’s What Happened When I Pressed Send.

An instant response, but then…

This is the first time I’ve had to write my own press release and distribute it. It was a daunting task, but I figured that if I could write a book, I could write a press release.

Besides, needs must and all that.

After watching a few PR experts on YouTube, I created a one-page wonder, added a picture and contact details, and reviewed it a dozen times before pressing send.

My book is based in my home city, so it made sense to start with the local press. I had already advertised on X, and about three seconds after I sent out the press release, a reporter, having seen my X post, messaged me, asking for an interview.

I emailed her the press release, and she called me. She said my press release was ‘great’. I puffed out my chest.

Her first question made me smile. It is the one question I never give an answer to because it is rarely relevant. “How old are you?”

“Even my boyfriend doesn’t know that.” I laughed

This didn’t faze her and she happily continued.

A few (more relevant) questions later, I hung up feeling pleased I’d had such a quick result.
