Why I have never used a dating agency or online app to meet someone.
I once knew a woman who was desperate to meet a man. Out of the blue, she decided her body clock was ticking, and now was the time.
From my observations, it seemed any man would do.
Let’s call her Kay. Kay joined an online dating agency; I don’t know which one. It became an obsession to ‘meet the right man’.
This is not how she met the right man.
Instead, she met a number of unsuitable suitors, including a man who lied about his age; he was much older. For some bizarre reason, they met at a petrol station cafe. He turned up in a flat cap and talked about his pigeons. Kay felt very let down by his dishonesty.
She met men who were self-obsessed, looking for ‘casual’ relationships, or control freaks. They talked too much or too little.
Rinse and repeat. I’ve heard similar experiences from friends.
The thought of joining a dating agency makes my stomach churn. I’ve always been comfortable with my own company and never cared about my body clock ticking. I think I have been lucky on that score. The women keen to meet the right man and the men keen to meet the right woman — in fact, anyone in need…
