I handwrite so rarely now that when I do, I have to go slowly to make sure it works well.

When I was 17 I went to live in Athens for a year and I still have the handwritten letters to and from my family and friends at that time. It makes for a fascinating read. I am so grateful that I lived at a time when we didn't have email. I remember well the anticipation of receiving letters, and the joy when they arrived.

This period also gives me a particularly special connection with my father who sadly became unwell during my absence. They are the last written contact I had with him before he completely lost his memory.

Thank you for a superb article. I must try to send handwritten letters more often!
