I have been taking photographs since my teens, and I have been selling my work for around 12 years now.

Here are some of the weird and annoying things that people have said to me and my photographer friends.

  1. I bet that image is Photoshopped.

I have never used Photoshop to alter an image. In fact, I keep editing to a minimum. I always use Affinity or Apple Mac software.

Those who don’t know as much as they think they do about photography immediately assume Photoshop is the only software editing program out there.

It isn’t.

2. The sunset isn’t facing the right way in your photograph. It must be sunrise.

Now this is a weird one. I had quite the argument one night on X, or Twitter as it was back then, over a sunset.

I shot the sunset on the North Norfolk coast.

First of all, it was me who was on the beach when I took the shot, and the sunset was quite definitely not a sunrise. I didn’t have a bang on the head and woke up, not knowing what time of day it was.

“But I lived there for several years. The direction in which you took the sunset doesn’t exist.”
