The Mood Sucker.

You don’t start to notice the vampire fangs until you feel the life start to drain out of you.

We’ve all been there: at a bus stop, on the train, on a plane, in a waiting room, at work, or in the gym.

It usually starts off innocently enough. This vampire makes small talk that lulls you into being content enough to pass the time while you travel, wait, work, or pound the treadmill.

“Isn’t the weather awful?” or, “This bus is often late.” A casual remark that it would be rude to ignore.

Ten minutes later, and you know about every illness, letdown, breakup, and misfortune this vampire has ever had. They have an opinion on everything, and nothing is right.

If you are like me, you try to counteract some of the negatives with positives, simply to lighten the mood. But this isn’t what the vampire wants. The vampire wants to suck any glimmer of optimism or happiness out of you, so that you feel as grumpy as they do.

You are left feeling miserable, mentally drained, and looking for a way to get away.
