If you are a writer without a copy of the Writers’ and Artists’ Yearbook, go buy one. It doesn’t have to be expensive; if you can’t afford this year’s edition, second-hand copies are available much cheaper, and you will still find a tonne of useful advice. The contact details may not be up-to-date in older versions, but it’s easy enough to seek out the current ones yourself.

It doesn’t matter what kind of writer you are: author, blogger, journalist, playwright, screenwriter, fiction or non-fiction, The Writers’ and Artists’ Yearbook is the bible for you.

What information will I find?

Everything you could possibly wish to know regarding every kind of publication you can imagine Plus a tonne of extra valuable information.

How to pitch, publish, find writing jobs, write across genres and forms, copywriting, screenwriting, and audio, win prizes and awards, join societies, associations, and clubs, get your book stocked in bookshops, write for the theatre, find book publishers overseas, make a living, and manage a successful writing career It even helps with tax information.

This book is the bee’s knees of information for writers. And no, I’m not getting a commission for promoting it here! I just want to share with you what an amazing tool it is for writers.

I came across the Writers’ and Artists’ Yearbook many moons ago. The amount of information within its bright red covers is mind-boggling.

You will find pages of publication, publisher, and agent addresses. The book lists editors contact details, subject matter, payment, websites, email addresses, and telephone numbers. All of this saves time scouring the internet.

As well as all the factual information and listings, you will find advice from writers, publishers, and agents.

Here are just some of the chapter titles:

My rocky road trip to writing success

How to get published

Audio dramatist or novelist.

How to be a food writer

Making facts your mission: the pleasure of writing non-fiction

Writing and publishing short stories

How to get your play published and performed

Changing lanes: writing across genres and forms

Self-publishing.

Festivals and conferences

As S.J. Watson says on the cover, ‘In here you will find everything you need.’

Once you have this book in your possession, you will no longer be flailing about trying to work out your next move or where to get the right information (like I once did).

Time is a valuable commodity, and The Writers’ and Artists’ Yearbook will give you back the time you could be using to write, illustrate, record, or paint.

It is, to my mind, the perfect reference book for writers and anyone involved in the creative arts.

If you go and get a copy, let me know how it helps you.
