Amazon KDP — Guess what? There are alternatives.
Just lately, I have seen a fair number of comments on social media complaining about Amazon KDP. People don’t feel their books are getting seen; they aren’t getting sales, and the ads don’t work anymore. It is all Amazon’s fault.
Maybe it is; I don’t know.
I first published with Amazon KDP back in 2012, and for me, it was like finding a magic genie. I’d written an eBook short story, and, hey presto, it was published. No agonising waits for the post to arrive with yays or nays from publications. Suddenly, with a bit of effort, my story was out there for all of the world to see.
I copied a few links to Facebook and Twitter, and hey presto, sales arrived, followed by reviews. It truly was magical.
In 2020, I published again, and it wasn’t dissimilar to the first experience, except that I made more effort with the publicity.
Now in 2023, I have published again through Amazon KDP, but seeing the naysayers suggesting Amazon isn’t as friendly to authors these days, I decided to see where else I could publish.
YouTube pointed me in the direction of Draft2Digital. Draft2Digital has a wide distribution network. The emphasis seems to be on eBooks, which they distribute to:
