A Gull, a Boat and a Smartphone
Come fly with me on my latest adventure in book marketing.
My most recent book’s setting is on a river, and it revolves around a gang of gulls. I say gull, not seagull, because they are urban gulls.
But never mind that. I am not writing this to talk about my gull tale.

It is a steep learning flight, to be sure, but a lot of fun.
The book takes place in my home city and includes local landmarks. This means I need to engage the local community. I know this won’t necessarily be the case for your book, but hopefully some of my adventures will be transferable in varying ways to your own promotional activities.
I often hear authors say they dread having to market or promote their book.
Writing a book is hard work; editing and proofreading it are even harder; and promoting it really should be one of the fun bits. But many authors, like me, are insular, and having to shout about our work can feel excruciating.
We spend all those months, sometimes years, tucked away, tapping at a keyboard, or constantly re-dipping our quill pen in the ink…
